FAQ

Do you have puppies for Christmas?

We are offering Christmas Puppies. We know from experience how exciting it is to give a puppy as a present and the logistical challenge of doing so. Christmas puppies can remain at our farm until 12/20. In those weeks, will continue excellent care for that puppy, do daily potty-training, and possibly an extra vet visit and vaccines (depending on how long they stay with us). The cost for this varies based on how long the puppy stays here past 8 weeks. If interested please contact us for a quote.

When will my puppy be ready?

Puppies will be ready for their new homes at 8 weeks old.

Do you deliver outside of your local area?

We are open to making deliveries, depending on your location. Please let us know if you would like delivery to another location and we will quote the cost. If there are additional delivery charges, that must be paid in advance.

How do I take care of my puppy?

Your puppy will benefit from high-quality food. We use Purina Pro Plan and send a starter bag with the puppy for your convenience. Your puppy should always have access to clean, fresh water. Your puppy will be up-to-date on vaccines but will need additional vaccines and boosters in time, so be sure to get in touch with your vet about your puppy’s care. Your vet is invaluable in the puppy-rearing journey. If ever in doubt, ask your vet!

Puppies need to chew, and even more so during teething. Provide age and size-appropriate toys for chewing.

You will need to determine your puppy’s living arrangement before taking him/her home. Is the yard fenced? Where will you exercise him/her? Are there neighbor dogs that might be an issue?

German Shepherds are very intelligent and require regular stimulation and exercise. Just letting the dog out in the yard to do its business or keeping it confined in a kennel or on a chain all day is not appropriate. They need to bond with their owners. They are large dogs and require care and management as such.

If you are not experienced with teaching basic dog obedience, I highly recommend that you utilize a trainer for the most enjoyable experience with your dog.

As a dog owner, you are responsible for the dog’s well-being, and that your dog does not endanger the people who you expect to come to your home such as guests, package deliverers, utility workers, etc.

Will my puppy be registered?

The short answer is no. Our female is registered with the AKC but our male is not. We bought him without papers, believing him to be purebred, and our vet confirmed that he believes him to be purebred as well. We are extremely pleased with his traits and so have chosen to use him for breeding. The price of our puppies reflects that you are not receiving a registered dog.

Will my puppy be hip and/or elbow certified?

The stud’s hips were x-rayed at 26 months. The vet said his hips looked good. Our female is registered with the AKC and comes from a reputable breeder who offers a hip dysplasia guarantee. We have no reason to suspect hip or elbow issues in our dogs and we have decided to forego the hip and elbow certification processes, based on what we know of our dogs’ histories and how they present.

Do I have to spay or neuter my dog?

Our puppies are intended to be pets and companions, not for use as breeding stock. We require buyers to sign an agreement that they will spay or neuter their dog at the age recommended by his/her veterinarian. Unintentional breeding is very common and creates potentially unwanted puppies. There are also important behavioral and health-related benefits to spaying/neutering your pet. Hover over the Information tab, then click on Spay/Neuter for more information from the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA).
